ADA Done Right at OAK Airport Power Station - 10/3/19

OAK Power Station 3.JPG

Look at the photo on the right. What you are seeing is a power charging station at the Oakland, CA, airport. On the right end is a place for disabled people to use the charging station. This is a great example of ADA done right!

Not only is there a clear space for disabled individuals in a wheel chair to pull up to the counter for the charging station, there are also three electrical outlets available from that clear space, and one has both the 110-120 VAC receptacle and slots for USB ports to power up devices.

And, in the photo on the left, look at the size of the International Symbol of Accessibility (ISA) sign. This sign clearly meets the requirements of Standard 703.6.1, Pictogram Field, which states, “Pictograms shall have a field height of 6 inches (150 mm) minimum. Characters and braille shall not be located in the pictogram field.”

So we have a winner when it comes to doing ADA right. Congratulations to the Oakland Airport Authority for making a great effort on behalf of all disabled people.
